Space Compass

Space Compass, founded in 2022 and based in Tokyo, Japan, is a space technology company focused on developing a unified space computing network. The company’s core business centers around satellite communications and data relay services, specifically utilizing optical technology to create a next-generation infrastructure. Space Compass is building an integrated network encompassing space-based data centers, utilizing both geostationary and low Earth orbit satellites, and high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) for communication.

This network aims to provide high-capacity, low-latency data transmission and computing capabilities, extending connectivity to underserved areas and enabling real-time data utilization from observation satellites.

A key differentiator for Space Compass is its focus on optical inter-satellite links and the integration of various space-based assets – satellites and HAPS – to create a seamless, unified network. Recent announcements highlight partnerships with Hellas Sat and the European Space Agency (ESA) for in-orbit demonstrations of satellite optical communication networks, as well as contracts with the Japanese Ministry of Defense for demonstrating optical communication technology. They are also collaborating with Microsoft on in-orbit AI technology demonstrations.

With a substantial capital base of 18.72 billion yen, Space Compass positions itself as a pioneer in providing the world’s first integrated services, aiming to address global challenges and contribute to a sustainable society through innovative space-based infrastructure.
