Space42 is an Abu Dhabi-based AI-powered space technology company formed in 2024 through the strategic merger of two UAE space entities: Bayanat, a geospatial analytics and AI company specializing in satellite-derived intelligence, and Yahsat (Al Yah Satellite Communications Company), the UAE's GEO satellite telecommunications operator with four operational satellites providing Ku-band and Ka-band broadband, broadcasting, and government communications services across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.

The merger created the first comprehensive AI-space company in the MENA region, combining Yahsat's satellite fleet and telecommunications infrastructure with Bayanat's AI-powered Earth observation analytics — a vertical integration of space data capture (Yahsat's satellite capacity and EO data access partnerships) through AI-enabled geospatial intelligence delivery (Bayanat's platform).

Yahsat operates the Al Yah 1 (2011), Al Yah 2 (2012), Al Yah 3 (2018) GEO satellites, plus a military Ka-band satellite (Thuraya's mobile satellite services through partnership), providing broadband connectivity to underserved communities across 60+ countries in Africa and the Middle East under the Yahsat-government funded SIEVERT program. Bayanat's AI platform ingests satellite imagery from multiple commercial EO sources and applies computer vision models for automated change detection, infrastructure mapping, crop monitoring, and maritime domain awareness.

Space42 is listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and benefits from Abu Dhabi's G42 artificial intelligence conglomerate's strategic backing and sovereign wealth fund support, positioning it as a flagship UAE technology company in the growing MENA space economy. The company competes with SES, Intelsat, and regional telecom operators on the connectivity side while competing with Maxar, Airbus Intelligence, and regional EO providers on the analytics side.
