SpaceLink (Electra)

SpaceLink (formerly known as Electra Space, hence the slug) is a Vienna, Virginia company founded in 2020 developing a commercial space relay network in medium Earth orbit (MEO) — an architecture similar to NASA's TDRS (Tracking and Data Relay Satellite) system but commercially operated and available to any LEO satellite operator. The problem SpaceLink solves: LEO satellites only have ground contact 10-15% of their orbit due to limited ground station geography, creating data latency and operational dead zones. SpaceLink's MEO relay satellites maintain continuous sight lines to both LEO spacecraft and ground stations, potentially providing near-continuous connectivity. SpaceLink has filed FCC licenses and raised funding, targeting NASA, DoD, and commercial EO constellation operators as customers. The company competes conceptually with AWS Ground Station and Azure Orbital's expansion, though those are ground-based solutions to the same problem.
