Speedcast, headquartered in Sydney, Australia and founded in 1999, is a global managed network services and satellite communications provider serving maritime, energy, enterprise, and government customers — designing and operating end-to-end connectivity solutions that integrate satellite capacity from multiple GEO and LEO satellite operators with terrestrial fiber, LTE/5G, and VSAT infrastructure to deliver reliable, managed broadband connectivity to vessels at sea, offshore oil and gas platforms, remote mine sites, and enterprise branch offices in locations beyond cellular reach.

Speedcast operates as a value-added reseller (VAR) and managed services integrator: rather than owning satellites, the company purchases transponder capacity wholesale from operators including Intelsat, SES, Eutelsat, Inmarsat, and increasingly SpaceX Starlink and Viasat, then packages this capacity with network operations center (NOC) monitoring, cybersecurity services, SD-WAN (software-defined wide area network) optimization, and technical field support into monthly managed service contracts.

Speedcast's maritime division is particularly significant, serving commercial shipping lines (tankers, bulk carriers, container ships), cruise vessels, offshore supply vessels, and fishing fleets globally with VSAT broadband connectivity for crew welfare (video calling, streaming), vessel operations management, navigation data services, and port logistics integration. The energy division serves offshore drilling rigs and production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, and Asia-Pacific.

Speedcast emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring in 2021 — caused by COVID-19's simultaneous collapse of cruise ship revenue (Speedcast's largest maritime customer segment) and oil price crash (eliminating offshore energy connectivity revenue) — and returned to growth as post-pandemic cruise recovery and offshore energy reinvestment rebuilt demand.
