About SpeQtral

SpeQtral is a Singapore-based quantum communication satellite company founded in 2017 as a spin-out from the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore, developing space-based quantum key distribution (QKD) satellites to create a global quantum-secured communication network. The company builds on Singapore's pioneering quantum space heritage: CQT researchers led the SpooQy-1 mission, a 3U CubeSat launched to the ISS in 2019 that demonstrated entanglement-based quantum communication from space for the first time using a miniaturized entangled photon source — a key enabling technology for quantum networks that SpeQtral is scaling to operational QKD satellite systems. SpeQtral's satellite QKD architecture distributes cryptographic keys encoded in individual photons' quantum states between ground stations, where the laws of quantum mechanics guarantee that any eavesdropping attempt disturbs the photon state and is detectable — providing information-theoretically secure key exchange that cannot be broken regardless of computational power, including future quantum computers. Singapore's strategic position at the crossroads of ASEAN financial and government communications networks makes it an ideal hub for satellite QKD infrastructure serving banking, government, and diplomatic communications across Southeast Asia and beyond. The company has received funding from Temasek Holdings and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), reflecting Singapore's national strategy to develop quantum technology as a strategic capability. SpeQtral competes with QuantumCTek (China, which operates the world's first commercial QKD satellite Micius/Mozi), QEYnet (Canada), and SkyQND (China) in the emerging satellite QKD market. The company collaborates with ESA and European partners through Singapore's growing quantum network of bilateral research partnerships.
