About Sputnix

Sputnix is a Moscow-based private satellite manufacturer founded in 2011, widely recognized as Russia's first genuinely private commercial satellite company — operating independently of the state-owned ROSCOSMOS and GK NPO Lavochkin enterprises that have dominated Russian space manufacturing for decades. Sputnix built and launched TabletSat-Aurora in June 2014, a 10 kg microsatellite that became Russia's first privately manufactured and commercially operated satellite, demonstrating that Russian commercial space entrepreneurship was viable despite the overwhelming dominance of state enterprises in the domestic market. The company develops the OrbiCraft satellite platform family — standardized 3U, 6U, 12U, and 16U CubeSat and microsatellite buses with integrated EPS, OBC, attitude control, and UHF/VHF radio — sold to Russian universities, research institutes, and emerging commercial operators who cannot access ROSCOSMOS state programs. Sputnix also manufactures satellite components and subsystems including sun sensors, magnetorquers, and deployable solar panels sold individually to international CubeSat developers. The company operates from the Skolkovo Innovation Center, Russia's attempt at a Silicon Valley-style technology cluster near Moscow, where it benefited from Skolkovo grant programs and reduced regulatory friction. Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and subsequent Western sanctions, Sputnix faces dramatically constrained access to Western electronic components (particularly radiation-tolerant microcontrollers and FPGAs from Texas Instruments, Xilinx, and Microchip), forcing component substitution strategies and limiting the company's ability to serve international customers who cannot transact with Russian entities under sanctions regimes.
