About SSC - Swedish Space Corporation

Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), founded in 1972 and headquartered in Solna, Sweden, is a state-owned Swedish space infrastructure and services company operating the Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden, a global ground station network, and providing satellite engineering and operations services to European and international government and commercial customers.

Esrange Space Center, located near Kiruna in Arctic Sweden (67°N), is one of Europe's most important space facilities: a sounding rocket and stratospheric balloon launch range operating since 1966 that has supported over 600 sounding rocket campaigns and thousands of balloon flights for ESA, NASA, JAXA, DLR, and national research programs studying aurora phenomena, atmospheric chemistry, microgravity biology, and cosmic radiation. Esrange's geographic position within the auroral zone makes it uniquely positioned for upper atmosphere and space environment research that cannot be replicated at mid-latitude sites. SSC has invested in Esrange as a potential small satellite orbital launch site, targeting future commercial launches from European soil.

SSC's ground station network (marketed as Inigo, now rebranded) provides satellite TT&C and data download services from stations at Esrange, Santiago Chile, South Africa, Singapore, Hawaii, and Alaska, competing with KSAT and Amazon Web Services Ground Station for LEO satellite contact services. The Arctic stations provide polar-orbit LEO access advantages similar to KSAT's Svalbard facility.

SSC also provides satellite engineering services — AOCS design, software development, mission operations support — for ESA programs and commercial operators. The company manages operations for Swedish government satellites and has supported Swedish academic institutions' CubeSat programs through integration and launch services.

SSC competes with KSAT, AWS Ground Station, and national ground segment operators in the commercial satellite services market. Its Esrange launch ambitions target the European sovereign launch ecosystem developing alongside RocketLab's launch site in New Zealand, Andøya Spaceport Norway, and the Vega-C/Ariane program.
