About Techshot
Techshot was a Greenville, Indiana life sciences hardware company founded in 1988 that became one of the premier commercial users of the ISS for biological research. The company developed the BioFabrication Facility (BFF) — the first 3D bioprinter to operate in space, launched to the ISS in 2019 — designed to print cardiac and vascular tissue structures that may eventually be used for organ repair. Techshot also built and operated cell culture hardware, space bioreactors, and plant growth chambers aboard the ISS, providing commercial microgravity research services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
The company was acquired by Redwire Corporation in 2021, integrating Techshot's life sciences capabilities into Redwire's growing portfolio of in-space manufacturing and payload services. Redwire continued operating the BFF and expanding commercial bioprinting research as part of its ISS services business.
