Space mission heritage includes FPAs for NASA's WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) telescope that catalogued over 700 million objects, instruments on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, thermal imaging systems for NOAA weather satellites, and detectors for various classified defense reconnaissance systems. The JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) uses near-infrared detector arrays where Teledyne FLIR's legacy sensor technology is present in the NIRCam, NIRSpec, and FGS instruments — among the most technically demanding infrared detectors ever built, requiring operation at 37 K and achieving noise levels measured in electrons per pixel per hour.

Teledyne FLIR Space competes primarily with Raytheon (now RTX) Vision Systems, DRS Technologies (Leonardo DRS), and Sofradir (now Lynred, France) for the infrared focal plane array market.
