About Tesat-Spacecom

Tesat-Spacecom is the world's leading manufacturer of laser optical communication terminals (OCTs) for satellites, headquartered in Backnang, Baden-Württemberg. A subsidiary of Airbus Defence and Space, Tesat has supplied optical inter-satellite link (ISL) terminals for SpaceX's Starlink constellation (Tesat LCT terminals were used on early Starlinks), European Data Relay System (EDRS), and military programs. The company's heritage in space optical communications dates back to the 1990s Silex laser demonstration mission, and it has since delivered hundreds of terminals for government and commercial programs. Tesat's terminals operate at infrared wavelengths (typically 1064nm or 1550nm) and can achieve multi-gigabit data rates between satellites separated by thousands of kilometers. Competitors include Mynaric and SA Photonics (CACI), but Tesat retains the longest space heritage in the field.
