Quick Facts
About UP Aerospace
UP Aerospace is a privately held American suborbital launch services company founded by aerospace engineer Jerry Larson, a former Lockheed Martin engineer, with origins dating to 1998 and formal incorporation in 2004. The company is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and conducts all of its launches from Spaceport America near Upham, New Mexico, where it was the first company to fly from the newly built spaceport.
UP Aerospace's primary product is the SpaceLoft XL, a solid-fuelled sounding rocket capable of carrying research, educational and government payloads to suborbital altitudes, with parachute recovery of the payload section; the company has also flown smaller SL-series rockets. UP Aerospace has supported NASA's Flight Opportunities programme, Los Alamos National Laboratory, university researchers and U.S. military customers, and had completed around 21 SpaceLoft missions with a mixed flight-success record by the mid-2020s.
The company has also announced development of an orbital small-satellite launch vehicle, Spyder, though this has not yet flown. UP Aerospace remains an active, privately held company under president Jerry Larson, operating as one of the longest-running commercial suborbital launch providers in the United States.
