About Visiona

Visiona Tecnologia Espacial S.A. is a Brazilian satellite technology company founded in 2012 as a joint venture between Embraer (Brazil's aerospace manufacturer) and Telebras (the state-owned telecommunications company), headquartered in São José dos Campos — Brazil's aerospace hub — to develop indigenous satellite design and integration competencies for the Brazilian space program.

The company's flagship program is the SGDC (Geostationary Defense and Strategic Communications) satellite, which Visiona led as the Brazilian integrator, working with SSL (then MDA) as the prime spacecraft manufacturer. SGDC launched in May 2017 and entered geostationary orbit service to provide Ka-band broadband internet connectivity to remote areas of Brazil (including Amazonian communities), support encrypted defense communications for the Brazilian Armed Forces, and reduce Brazilian dependence on foreign satellite capacity. Visiona's participation in SGDC was explicitly designed to transfer satellite system engineering knowledge to Brazilian engineers through supervised project work alongside the foreign prime contractor.

Following SGDC, Visiona developed the VCUB program — small nanosatellite (CubeSat) platforms for Earth observation and technology demonstration — intended to build Brazilian competency in faster, lower-cost satellite development cycles. The company also supports INPE (Brazil's National Institute for Space Research) on Earth observation system development, including the SGDC-2 follow-on program. Visiona's JV structure combines Embraer's aerospace manufacturing discipline with Telebras's telecommunications sector knowledge, serving Brazil's long-term goal of achieving domestic satellite manufacturing capability within the broader national space program.
