Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent expanded oil price cap enforcement, demand for Windward's sanctions evasion detection capability surged, as the so-called 'shadow fleet' of tankers transporting Russian oil required precisely the behavioral anomaly detection Windward specializes in.

Windward completed an IPO on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market in 2021, raising approximately £35 million. The company has partnerships with Lloyd's List Intelligence, IHS Markit/S&P Global, and integrations with major trade finance banking platforms.
