The San Francisco-based company operates a constellation delivering sub-0.25 meter resolution imagery for defense, intelligence, and commercial customers. In 2024, Capella added three advanced Acadia third-generation satellites to its constellation, achieving an industry first by launching and commissioning two satellites within a single week. The August 2024 launches happened just five days apart, with Capella-15 making first contact only 12 minutes after deployment. The constellation now includes 15 satellites providing revisit times under 3 hours over key regions. Acadia satellites feature improved 700 MHz radar bandwidth delivering higher resolution and imaging quality compared to earlier generations. The radars operate in stripmap, spotlight, and sliding spotlight modes for diverse application requirements. Capella's fully automated tasking platform enables rapid order-to-delivery timelines for time-sensitive intelligence needs. In 2024, Capella was awarded $15 million by the U.S. Air Force to develop next-generation SAR sensors and received a Space Development Agency HALO contract award. The company launched an AI-powered Vessel Classification system in May 2024, automatically identifying and categorizing ships in high-resolution SAR imagery without human intervention. Umbra

Umbra is a commercial space company operating an advanced synthetic aperture radar satellite constellation delivering the highest resolution SAR imagery commercially available. Founded in 2015 and vertically integrated from their 50,000 square-foot California manufacturing facility, Umbra provides all-weather, day-and-night Earth observation for defense, intelligence, and commercial customers. In August 2024, Umbra launched satellites Umbra-09 and Umbra-10 aboard SpaceX Transporter-11, expanding the constellation to ten satellites. Operating in strategic pairs, the constellation demonstrated industry-leading bistatic SAR capabilities with the tandem pair Umbra-07 and Umbra-08 launched in November 2023, providing unique imaging phenomenology and operational resilience. Umbra's SAR technology delivers 1,200 MHz bandwidth enabling resolution licensed down to 13 centimeters, seeing through clouds, smoke, and total darkness. The radars operate in spotlight, stripmap, and other modes for diverse application requirements. DARPA selected Umbra for its Distributed Radar Image Formation Technology program, accelerating development of automated formation flying and multistatic data processing. Hisdesat

Hisdesat operates three satellite systems. Its secure military communications fleet comprises XTAR-EUR (launched 2005, operated jointly with the U.S. under the XTAR joint venture) and Spainsat (launched 2006), both providing encrypted X-band and other secure communications in geostationary orbit for Spanish and allied military users; a next-generation satellite, Spainsat NG, has been developed to replace this capacity. For Earth observation, Hisdesat operates Paz, a synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite launched in 2018 that provides all-weather, day-and-night imaging for defence, security, maritime surveillance and civil applications. Hisdesat also operates a satellite-based Automatic Identification System (AIS) capability for maritime vessel tracking. Ownership of Hisdesat has changed with consolidation in the Spanish satellite sector: following Indra Group's acquisition of an 89.68% stake in Hispasat completed around January 2026, Indra became Hisdesat's majority shareholder through its Hispasat holding. ICEYE US

ICEYE US is the American subsidiary of ICEYE, the Finnish synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite company founded in 2012 that operates the world's largest commercial SAR satellite constellation, established in Irvine, California in 2020 to specifically serve US government and national security customers. The US entity was created because many US government customers — including the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), US Space Force, and Department of Homeland Security — require their imagery and data service providers to be US-domiciled companies operating under US laws, holding appropriate security clearances, and capable of entering classified contract vehicles. ICEYE's SAR satellites provide all-weather, day-and-night imaging at sub-meter resolution with hourly revisit capabilities over areas of interest — critical advantages over optical EO satellites that are blocked by clouds and limited to daylight hours. The constellation's persistent monitoring capability is particularly valuable for tracking vessel movements in contested maritime areas, assessing battlefield damage and military activity, monitoring infrastructure in denied access areas, and disaster response where cloud cover often accompanies the weather events causing damage. iQPS

iQPS Japan
