Space industry in Slovenia

Sinergise is a Ljubljana, Slovenia-based geospatial software company best known for developing Sentinel Hub, a cloud platform that makes satellite data from the EU's Copernicus Sentinel missions, Landsat, and other providers accessible for browsing, processing, and analysis without users needing to operate their own ground infrastructure. The company also builds broader GIS and remote-sensing tools for land administration and agriculture, and has signed enterprise satellite-data agreements with national governments, including Slovenia's own. Sentinel Hub has become widely used infrastructure across the European Earth observation developer community, underpinning applications built by researchers, startups, and government agencies that need processed, API-accessible access to raw downlinked satellite imagery rather than building their own data pipelines.

Sentinel Hub, founded in 2016 and based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a cloud platform specializing in Earth Observation (EO) data processing and analytics. Acquired by Planet, Sentinel Hub functions as a robust engine capable of handling petabytes of satellite data, providing access and processing capabilities to a broad user base. The company’s core offering is a Cloud API designed to facilitate the integration of satellite imagery into various applications and workflows. Sentinel Hub’s key capability lies in its infrastructure for efficient processing of large-scale EO datasets. This allows developers to leverage satellite data for machine learning applications and integrate geospatial analysis into their products without the need for significant in-house data storage or processing resources. The platform focuses on enabling access to and usability of satellite data, lowering the barrier to entry for utilizing this technology. Currently, Sentinel Hub supports hundreds of application developers globally, indicating a growing adoption of its services. While specific mission details or prominent customers aren’t publicly detailed, the scale of its developer base suggests a significant presence in the expanding geospatial analytics market. Sentinel Hub’s unique value proposition centers on providing a scalable, cloud-based solution for accessing and processing EO data, effectively functioning as a data-access and processing layer for developers building geospatial applications. This positions the company as a key enabler for innovation across industries leveraging satellite imagery, from environmental monitoring to precision agriculture and beyond.
